Narrow the results by school phase and inspection outcome. As you pan, use "Search this area" to re-run the search wherever you land.
Select a marker to see the school's inspection outcome, our A to F score and distance, then view the full profile for results, demographics and trends.
Markers are coloured by each school's most recent inspection outcome. Inspections are carried out by the national inspectorate for each country: Ofsted in England, Estyn in Wales, HM Inspectorate of Education in Scotland, and the ETI in Northern Ireland.
Outstanding, or above the expected standard on a new report card.
Good, or at the expected standard. The most common outcome nationally.
Requires improvement, or below the expected standard.
Inadequate, or in need of urgent improvement.
Independent schools are inspected separately, often by ISI, and are not graded on the Ofsted scale.
Usually a newly opened school, or a recent academy converter awaiting its first inspection.
A gold star marks schools rated Outstanding. Schools in England inspected from November 2025 receive a report card rather than a single-word judgement; their markers take the colour of a grade distilled from the report card's inspection areas. How report cards work
The directory behind the map lists around 56,000 schools across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, drawn from the Department for Education's Get Information about Schools register and its national equivalents. School profiles bring together inspection outcomes, exam performance, pupil demographics, absence and destinations data where published, and our composite A to F score for schools with enough data to grade fairly. The search circle is a straight-line radius from your chosen point. It is not an admissions catchment area: catchments are set by schools and local authorities and can change from year to year.
